Pilot Hill Publishing is a new company with roots and knowledge stemming from the music scene of Hollywood, the publishing companies and music copyright and royalty restoration.  Pilot Hill’s sister company, Black Box Royalties, assists artists and their heirs with the reclamation of unpaid royalties and the reversion of copyrights and has been doing so for over a decade.

The experience of dealing with music royalties from an artist’s point of view, made us realize just how important it was to start a publishing company that would stand out from the rest.  Not because we aim to be the largest but rather because we offer what arguably no one else does–complete transparency and access to all of your financial documents and royalty statements-ALL THE TIME.  With direct, unfettered access to third-party vendors’  financial statements as well as our own, the goal is simple: Provide the most transparent Publisher-Artist royalty relationship in the world. From Amazon and iTunes, Distrokid and Tunecore, to Harry Fox and Spotify, we aim to clear up the obscurity of exactly where your money comes from and how much is paid, starting with the creation of licenses and ending with the deposit of royalties into your bank account.

Pilot Hill Publishing offers shortened, time-based artist agreements from shopping for placements to full-on publishing contracts.  We do not believe nor offer, contracts that bind the artist for decades on end with little to no reprieve.  It is our belief that without the artist, there would be no music business, not the other way around.

At Pilot Hill Publishing, gone are the days of the huge music industry conglomerates cutting a check accompanied by a vague and confusing royalty statement. More than not, the entertainment industry is filled with stories of inadequate royalties paid, with some never being paid, and the only recourse being expensive and timely audits through litigation.  Often times, the aggrieved artist spends as much money if not more, after everyone receives their cut, than what was recovered by a settlement.  Here at Pilot Hill Publishing, we believe that such a process in archaic and outdated.  Giving the artist the power through complete knowledge of where their money comes from, how much each vendor pays, how those vendors achieve royalties on your behalf, is what Pilot Hill Publishing motto means by “Changing the music business, one note at a time.”
